The project will establish a centralized resettlement area for approximately 24 households on a 10,000-square-meter site. It will include housing, roads, electricity and water supply systems, drainage infrastructure, and other supporting facilities.

"In the long term, it is essential to identify a suitable site and complete the necessary land-use conversion procedures to relocate all households from the disaster-affected area to a safer location," said Ha Quang Trung, Chairman of the Lai Chau Provincial People's Committee.

He called for a review of affected household and thorough, detailed assessments. "We have also decided to use the site originally planned for a land auction, convert its land-use purpose, and develop it into a resettlement area. The new site must be carefully surveyed to ensure it has adequate transport links, electricity and water infrastructure, as well as cultural and community facilities that meet the residents' needs and respect their customs and way of life," according to Trung.

Heavy rainfall from July 15 to 17 triggered severe flash floods and landslides in Muong Than Commune, damaging homes and infrastructure and posing a direct threat to the lives and property of local residents.
