Information about the funeral of former Party leader Do Muoi will be announced later. Mr. Do Muoi was born on February 2, 1917, in Dong My commune, Thanh Tri district, Hanoi. An early participant in revolutionary activities and member of the Communist Party, his career spanned periods of resistance war, and national construction and defence. He had held many positions during his career and made great contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and nation. As General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee from June 1991 to December 1997, Do Muoi and the Party’s Central Committee, Political Bureau and Secretariat led the Party, people and army in implementing Vietnam’s policy of renewal and building and safeguarding the Fatherland, and fulfilled every task assigned him by the Party, State and people in an exemplary fashion. He was recently presented with an insignia of 80-year Party membership.
