He made the remarks at a ceremony in Hanoi on Saturday marking the 80th anniversary of the Hanoi Capital Armed Forces’ Traditional Day (October 19).
“Priority should be given to building the Capital Armed Forces into a revolutionary, regular, elite, modern, lean, compact, and strong force. It is essential to build a strong active force, a robust reserve force, and a strong, widespread, high-quality militia and self-defense force capable of meeting the requirements of the new situation,” said the Party leader and President.
Mr. Lam expressed his hope that the Capital Armed Forces would continue to play a core role in national defense and security, working alongside Hanoi authorities and residents to make the capital a truly cultured, civilized, modern, and happy city, a global connectivity hub, and a driving force for national development.
On the occasion, Mr. Lam presented the title of Hero of the People’s Armed Forces to the Hanoi Capital Command.
