As of Monday, the Italian Ministry of Health has issued an urgent notice referring preventive quarantine measures for four citizens returning from abroad.
The move comes after it was confirmed they were on the same flight with a victim who died from the Hanta virus. Currently, all four passengers remain in stable health and have not exhibited any clinical symptoms. But strict quarantine and surveillance protocols have been implemented.
The UK has evacuated dozens of passengers who landed in Manchester on Sunday and are now being monitored at Arrowe Park hospital near Liverpool for testing. They will remain in isolation for up to 72 hours.
The Greek Ministry of Health said on Sunday that it will impose a mandatory 45-day quarantine on a Greek citizen evacuated from the MV Hondius.
The US Department of Health and Human Services said Sunday one evacuee had tested “mildly positive” for hantavirus while another had “mild symptoms” and is awaiting confirmation. According to US officials, the two potentially affected passengers traveled in bio-containment units aboard the plane repatriating the 17 citizens from Spain.
After landing, most passengers will head to the National Quarantine Unit at the University of Nebraska Medical Center for an initial evaluation. The passenger with symptoms will proceed to another specialized treatment center.
