Painted in May 1890, "Châtaigniers en fleurs", or "Chestnut Trees in Blossom", is one of the most important works from the Dutch artist's final days in the French village of Auvers-sur-Oise, where he died about two months later, aged 37.

Paintings from Van Gogh’s final period in Auvers-sur-Oise, shortly after his release from a psychiatric asylum in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, rarely come to market. The auction is expected to attract interest from collectors, museums, and investors.

“This is the first time the work has been publicly displayed in 61 years, and it really caught my attention. It is a beautiful painting and also extremely valuable. Some believe that the painting may fetch the highest price this year, so I wanted to view it in person to see what makes it so special. I really liked it and took a lot of photos,” Lin, a visitor, said.

The painting is expected to fetch about 180 million USD at the auction scheduled for November 18.
