The festival is a distinctive spiritual and cultural event associated with the worship of Thien Y A Na Holy Mother. It is held annually in the third and seventh lunar months at Hue Nam Palace in Hue.

According to researchers, the festival reflects cultural interaction between the Po Nagar Goddess worship tradition of the Cham people and the Mother Goddess worship tradition of the Vietnamese people, creating a unique form of cultural expression in central Vietnam.

“The Hue Nam Palace Festival is a unique blend of folk traditions and the court culture of the Nguyen Dynasty. It has many distinctive features that set it apart from Mother Goddess worship practices in northern Vietnam. Most remarkably, the festival unfolds like a living epic - a spectacular folk celebration that stretches from the Huong River to the shrine on Ngoc Tran Mountain,” said Dr. Nguyen Tien Dinh, a member of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
