He added that Iran and Oman are not discussing imposing fees on ships transiting the waterway. Baghaei said mechanisms will be established to ensure safe shipping, address environmental issues, provide maritime services, and combat crimes in the strait.

Under the plan, fees will be charged for maritime services provided in the strait. “Reopening the Strait of Hormuz is conditional on the lifting of the US naval blockade,” Esmail Baghaei told a press conference.

He urged countries in the region to work together without outside powers. He said Iran has long-standing ties with Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan, and is not concerned about the new defense pact between those three countries.
