Speaking to the press in Canberra on Monday, PM Takaichi highlighted the outcomes in energy cooperation and enhancing the resilience of supply chains, including rare earths and critical minerals.

In Vietnam, Japan introduced the first project under its “Power Asia” initiative, unveiled last month, aiming to strengthen Vietnam’s crude oil supply. Medical supplies produced by Japanese companies in Vietnam are expected to be exported to Japan. She said that supporting stable energy supplies for Vietnam, an important hub in regional supply chains, will play a key role in sustaining economic activity and ensuring stable livelihoods in both countries.

Regarding the “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” (FOIP) initiative proposed by former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe a decade ago, PM Takaichi stressed the need to enhance the autonomy and resilience of countries in the region. She underscored Japan’s commitment to working closely with regional partners to advance practical cooperation under FOIP, contributing to a stronger and more prosperous Indo-Pacific.
