Following talks in Paris on Monday, the defense ministers of the UK, France, Germany, Italy, and Poland said that Europe must assume greater responsibility for its own security and shoulder a greater burden within the alliance. They reiterated their determination to work in close coordination with the United States and all allies to achieve this goal.
The E5 described the US as an indispensable ally, emphasizing that Washington’s continued presence and long-term commitment to European security are essential to a strong and credible NATO. They also reaffirmed their commitment to continued support for Ukraine, but stopped short of announcing any new financial or military assistance.
The group’s next meeting is scheduled to take place in Italy in March next year.
