Chairing a meeting in Hanoi on Tuesday on the national maritime industry development strategy, Mr. Lam said the strategy aims to strengthen the country’s capabilities at sea and on inland waterways while linking economic development with national defense and security, transport and logistics self-reliance, supply chain resilience, and international integration.
The Party leader stressed the need to build a modern, green, and digital maritime and inland waterway industrial ecosystem with strong self-reliance and international competitiveness.
“We must develop supporting industries, design capabilities, science and technology, vessel registration services, standards systems, data infrastructure, and a highly skilled workforce in a coordinated manner. Human resource policies should align training with market demand and include effective measures to attract, employ, reward, and retain engineers, skilled workers, and experts,” he said.
Party leader and President Lam said that strategic partners should be selected based on their ability to transfer technology, improve management capacity, support the development of Vietnamese enterprises, participate in research and development, and help expand markets.
It’s necessary to encourage the emergence of enterprises capable of organizing entire value chains and expanding exports of finished products, intermediate goods, and technical services, he noted.
