Brigadier General Sadiq al-Asri, deputy chief instructor at Yemen’s Air Force and Air Defense College, said bringing drones into service represented an important step in efforts to rebuild and develop the capabilities of the country’s air force.
He said the move comes alongside efforts to rehabilitate fighter jets and develop medium-range missile systems.
The UN Security Council held an open meeting on Yemen on Thursday, expressing deep concern over the escalation in fighting and attacks targeting Saudi Arabia and commercial vessels. It warned that the latest developments could undermine a fragile ceasefire that has been in place since April 2022.
