The campaign’s objectives included ensuring that 100% of eligible fishing vessels maintain connections to the vessel monitoring system (VMS) and make declarations through the electronic traceability system; preventing fishing vessels from entering foreign waters illegally; and fully resolving outstanding violation cases.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment will report the results to the EC before October 1.
“As we are determined to have the yellow card lifted in 2026, this campaign was an important opportunity to review the progress of our work. Encouraging results have been achieved,” said Deputy Minister Vo Van Hung.
According to Mr. Hung, VMS disconnections have fallen by 50% compared with the previous month; the number of fishing vessels entering ports has doubled; and the number of vessels crossing maritime boundaries and encroaching into foreign waters has fallen by more than 50% year on year.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment is inspecting fishing vessel management, VMS monitoring, traceability, and controls on vessel entry and exit in Can Tho and Vinh Long. These areas are among those covered by the EC’s recommendations on combating IUU fishing.
