The same day, Niger’s Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) said operations at Diori Hamani International Airport in Niamey remained normal following the overnight mutiny on August 28–29.
In an official statement, Niger’s Defense Minister General Salifou Mody said the Army had successfully thwarted the mutiny involving a group of soldiers at Air Base 101, located near the Diori Hamani International Airport.
After hours of intense fighting around several high-security sites in Niamey, the military junta gradually reasserted full control. According to the statement, a group of rogue soldiers violated military discipline by attempting to detain fellow personnel at the air base before opening fire on key locations in the capital.
A swift response by Niger’s defense and security forces foiled the plot and restored order at all affected sites.
