The municipal Department of Construction said that in the first month of the free service, bus passengers totaled nearly 8.5 million, with a higher rate each week. The city will continue to focus on improving service quality and bus terminals, and strengthening the mobilization of social resources to move towards a modern public transportation system.
Le Hoan, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Public Transportation Management Center, said, “We strive to optimize bus operations and cut passengers’ waiting times. Operations are calculated at each stop. This will continue to be implemented on busy bus routes to ensure smooth operation, a better passenger experience, and a scientific and precise implementation process.”
Ho Chi Minh City offers free bus services to all passengers from July 1 through the end of 2026. According to the municipal People's Committee, the policy represents a people-centred social welfare initiative aimed at improving public services, supporting social security and encouraging residents to shift from private vehicles to public transport, thereby contributing to a greener and more sustainable urban transport system.
