He made the remarks at a meeting on Tuesday in Hanoi with the Ministry of Health on revisions to the Law on Medical Examination and Treatment, the Law on Pharmacy, and the Law on Food Safety.

The PM said the top priority is the lives and health of patients, and the interests of the people.

"We must make sure healthcare facilities have the equipment they need and people have access to medicines, without problems caused by existing mechanisms", Mr. Hung said. The Government is determined to work with the Health Ministry to remove all bottlenecks and build a more open and transparent system. The goal is to provide quality healthcare at reasonable costs, he added.

The draft amendments to the Law on Medical Examination and Treatment are scheduled to be submitted to the National Assembly’s year-end session for approval.
