In an interview with Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reporters in Laos, ahead of the official visit to Laos on Thursday and Friday by Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung at the invitation of Lao Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith, the Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister emphasized that the visit takes place in a very special context.
Both nations are entering the first year of implementing the resolutions of the 12th National Congress of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam. Laos has recently elected a new President of the 10th National Assembly and a new Prime Minister at the second session of the 10th National Assembly, while Vietnam is convening a meeting of the 14th Party Central Committee and preparing for a session of the 16th National Assembly.
The timing is highly significant for upholding shared determination and elevating the bilateral relationship to a new, higher level of development, Thongsavan Phomvihane said.
The Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister noted that during Prime Minister Hung’s official visit, the two sides are expected to sign and exchange over 10 cooperation documents. These documents will lay a crucial legal and political foundation for implementing practical action programs among the ministries, sectors, and localities of both countries. They will also help to thoroughly prepare the agenda for the 49th Session of the Laos-Vietnam Intergovernmental Committee on Bilateral Cooperation, scheduled for early 2027.
The visit will feature a Laos-Vietnam Investment Promotion Conference to be attended by 1,000 delegates representing state management agencies and the business communities of both nations, serving as a forum to align cooperation needs and potential with concrete projects.
The Lao official said his country hopes the visit will deliver strong, breakthrough and substantive progress in economic, trade and investment cooperation, commensurate with the importance of the two countries’ special political relationship.
