Speaking to the VOV correspondent in Russia ahead of the ASEAN–Russia Commemorative Summit, Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Dang Minh Khoi emphasized that Prime Minister Le Minh Hung’s upcoming visit once again highlights Vietnam’s role as an important bridge connecting Russia and ASEAN.
Ambassador Dang Minh Khoi stressed that when Russia established relations with ASEAN 35 years ago, Vietnam was among its strongest supporters. As a major Eurasian power spanning both Europe and Asia, Russia’s engagement has contributed to enhancing ASEAN’s global profile and influence.
Over the past three and a half decades, Vietnam has introduced numerous initiatives to strengthen Russia–ASEAN ties and has consistently supported Russia’s deeper participation in ASEAN-led mechanisms. At the same time, Vietnam and Russia have established a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, providing a favorable foundation for elevating Russia–ASEAN relations to a higher level.
The ambassador also highlighted Vietnam’s growing economic development and growing influential voice within ASEAN. These factors, he said, reinforce Vietnam’s constructive and proactive role in promoting stronger Russia–ASEAN cooperation—a role that is highly valued by both Russia and ASEAN member states.
