On its first day as a city, which coincided with National Day celebrations, Quang Ninh was adorned with flags, banners and slogans welcoming its new status. More than 400,000 Party and national flags, 500 panels and more than 160 LED screens have been installed throughout the city.
“The atmosphere is festive and joyful. Each household was given a national flag, creating a sea of flags and flowers. We all hope the city will become more modern, with better infrastructure, and a higher quality of life for local residents,” local resident To Tien Cuong said.
With its new status, Quang Ninh aims to develop into a civilized, modern and green coastal city, closely connected to its heritage and with a stronger international profile. It also seeks to become a gateway linking Vietnam with Northeast Asia and the Asia-Pacific region, as well as a national hub for the marine economy.
