Madonna, the Queen of Pop, was the biggest winner, taking home seven prizes in total, including three onstage wins: artist of the year, best dance (her Confessions II short film) and best collaboration (“Bring Your Love” with Sabrina Carpenter).
The next big victor: Taylor Swift, who accepted the first-ever Artist Director Honors (before premiering her latest self-directed video, for her brand-new track “Patient Zero”) and then returned to take home the final award of the night: Video of the Year for “The Fate of Ophelia”.
“Thank you so much for giving this award to this video, because I'm so proud of it. To the fans, thank you for voting on it. And lastly, but most importantly, I want to thank and dedicate this award to one person without whom this wouldn't be happening, and that person is the ultimate showgirl, Dolly Parton,” Swift told the audience.
LISA, a member of K-pop band Blackpink, took home the first prize of the night, winning best pop for “Dream” featuring Kentaro Sakaguchi, while Sienna Spiro was named best new artist as a result of fans voting throughout the show. Nirvana was honored with the prestigious Video Vanguard.
