Attendees included Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra, leaders from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Ito Naoki.
The 498-member delegation includes 348 athletes competing in 214 events across 33 of the 43 sports in Aichi-Nagoya Games from September 19 to October 4, 2026. The Vietnam delegation is led by Nguyen Hong Minh, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Sports Administration. They target four to six gold medals at the Games, which is bringing together over 11,000 athletes from 45 countries and territories
Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra assigned tasks to the delegation members. “I urge the Vietnamese sports delegation to compete with a drive for breakthroughs and to surpass their own limits. Every member must demonstrate the utmost determination, striving to meet and exceed the set targets and performance goals. Uphold the spirit of noble and honest sportsmanship. Each individual should truly act as a cultural ambassador—embodying national dignity, self-respect, and pride—thereby helping to project an image of the Vietnamese people as friendly, spirited, intelligent, and globally integrated,” she said.
On behalf of the Vietnamese athletes, shooter Pham Quang Huy expressed his determination to accomplish the mission. “For every athlete, wearing the national team jersey is a source of immense pride in our career. It is not just a personal honor but a sacred responsibility toward the Fatherland and the people. On behalf of all Vietnamese athletes, I pledge to stand united, maintain strict discipline, demonstrate unwavering resilience, and compete with integrity and sportsmanship.”
