Trump said the US would require little external assistance to keep the Strait of Hormuz open, as the agreement already includes provisions guaranteeing the reopening of this critical shipping route. Nevertheless, he welcomed offers from partner countries to deploy naval assets to the region in support of maritime security.
Iranian media also reported that at least three oil tankers and two cargo vessels had successfully passed through an area that had previously been blocked by US naval forces.
Several countries, including the United Kingdom, France, and Italy, had earlier proposed a joint naval mission in the Strait of Hormuz. Following the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between Washington and Tehran, the Italian government announced its readiness to deploy around 400 troops and a naval task force to participate in an international mine-clearing operation in the strategic waterway.
