In an interview, Balakrishnan said Mr. To Lam’s remarks reflected a shared understanding of the challenges posed by a rapidly changing global order, particularly for small and medium-sized countries. He stressed the need for greater economic diversification, deeper integration, and stronger cooperation among like-minded partners to reduce trade barriers and enhance resilience.
The minister also highlighted the important role of ASEAN and other multilateral institutions in fostering dialogue, building trust, and promoting mutually beneficial cooperation.
Balakrishnan praised Vietnam’s recent development achievements, noting that under Mr. To Lam’s leadership, the country has become one of the world’s fastest-growing economies.
With a young workforce, expanding digital industries, and a key position in global supply chains, Vietnam is expected to play an increasingly influential role in the region.
