Military action in the region can only be decided by the Republic of Korea and no one may decide to take military action without the consent of the Republic of Korea, Moon said at a ceremony marking the 72nd anniversary of South Korea’s liberation from Japanese colonial rule.

During a phone conversation on Tuesday, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and US President Donald Trump agreed that preventing North Korea from launching missiles toward Guam is of utmost importance. Abe also hailed Trump’s commitment to stand side by side with its allies in tackling threats from Kim Jong-un.
Meanwhile, German Chancellor Angela Merkel pushed for resuming long-dormant six-party talks on North Korea’s nuclear program.
