The samples were collected from unidentified martyrs' graves in cemeteries across Can Tho City and the provinces of Ca Mau, An Giang, Vinh Long, and Dong Thap.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Lieutenant General Ho Van Thai, Secretary of the Party Committee and Political Commissar of Military Region 9, called it a flight of deep sentiment and gratitude. It’s a journey undertaken by millions of hearts turning toward their roots and honoring the homeland's outstanding sons who sacrificed their lives for the Fatherland and the Vietnamese nation, he said.
This was the 11th time Military Region 9 organized the transport of martyr remain samples and the first time the mission was carried out using a CASA-C295 military aircraft.
The containers holding the biological samples will be handed over to the Military Institute of Forensic Medicine (Ministry of National Defense), the Institute of Forensic Science (Ministry of Public Security), and the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology in Hanoi. These institutions will conduct DNA analysis to accurately identify the martyrs.
The event holds profound political, social, and humanitarian significance, embodying the traditional virtue of "When drinking water, remember its source" and reflecting the deeply sacred sentiment and responsibility of the current generation toward their predecessors.
