The election will determine which party controls Congress during the final two years of President Donald Trump’s term. A rift between Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic Senate candidate in Michigan, and his former primary rival, Representative Haley Stevens, has become a major focus in the final days of the campaign.
On Sunday, Stevens announced her endorsement of El-Sayed’s Republican rival, former Congressman Mike Rogers, further intensifying the closely contested race in this battleground state. Following her announcement, Michigan Democratic Party Chairman Curtis Hertel said Stevens was no longer a member of the state Democratic Party and would not be a member in the future. Polls show Democrats leading in Senate races in the battleground states of Texas, Michigan, and Maine.
However, the contests remain tight as Election Day approaches. With all 435 seats in the House of Representatives up for election and Republicans defending a narrow 218-214 majority, political analysts predict that Democrats are likely to take control of the chamber.
