“The visit of To Lam is much-awaited. It’s very significant because he’s coming here as President and also as Secretary General of the Communist Party. So for Thailand, this the first time really and I think it will help to boost the bilateral relations tremendously,” according to the Thai scholar.
Chongkittavorn explained three reasons why the visit matters. First, Thailand-Vietnam relations now have become comprehensive strategic partnership. Second, Vietnam now reaches a new level and has experiences it would like to share with Thailand as a trustful partner. Third, To Lam has a big plan for the region, particularly Vietnam would like to have Thailand’s help within the ASEAN framework, Chongkittavorn said. Vietnam has been a member of ASEAN for 30 years, he went on, it has gained confidence and now would like to contribute to ASEAN.
Party General Secretary and State President To Lam will pay an official visit to Thailand from Wednesday to Friday at the invitation of Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.
