Mr. Lam made the proposal during a roundtable with leaders of major US firms in New York, as part of his trip to attend the high-level general debate of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly and conduct bilateral activities in the US.

At the event organized by the US Chamber of Commerce, the US-ASEAN Business Council, and the business communities of both countries, General Secretary and President Lam remarked that the insights shared were highly practical, demonstrating the American business community's continued interest, confidence, and high expectations for Vietnam.

He emphasized the need to set higher standards for economic cooperation between Vietnam and the United States: moving beyond merely expanding the scale of trade and investment to enhancing the quality of cooperation, technology content, productivity, innovation capacity, and the level of participation by enterprises from both countries in strategic value chains.

Vietnam remains committed to refining its institutional framework, reforming administrative procedures, protecting the legitimate rights and interests of investors, ensuring fair competition, and focusing on substantively removing bottlenecks, General Secretary and President Lam said.

“We are continuing to invest heavily in the foundational elements of a modern economy: a high-quality workforce, stable energy supplies, transport and logistics infrastructure, digital infrastructure, capital markets, and an innovation ecosystem. These are also the decisive factors enabling U.S. enterprises not only to come to Vietnam but to remain for the long term, expand their investments, and bring increasingly high-value operations to the country.”

At the roundtable, the Vietnamese top leader witnessed the signing of contracts and cooperation agreements between Vietnamese and US agencies and enterprises on digital transformation, high-tech, artificial intelligence (AI), aviation, green energy, healthcare, and telecommunications.

Later Wednesday afternoon, General Secretary and President To Lam met with leaders of major US corporations, including Gwynne Shotwell, President and Chief Operating Officer of SpaceX, Eric Hambly, Chairman, President and CEO of Murphy Oil Corporation, Raj Subramaniam, President and CEO of FedEx Corporation, William Nathan Franklin, Founder, CEO and President of Pacifico Energy, Peter J. Gibson, Founder and CEO of Nebula Energy, and Murali Krishna Reddy, Member of the Founding Family and Director at Hetero Pharma and a key principal at Camber Pharmaceuticals.
