Meeting with the Union’s new leadership in Hanoi on Tuesday, Mr. Lam noted that the 14th National Party Congress had, for the first time, identified foreign affairs and international integration as a “key and regular task.”
“We must engage both elites and the broader public to build an international ‘people’s heart and mind posture’. While it is important to expand ties with foreign legislators, scholars and business leaders, the true strength of people-to-people diplomacy lies with the people themselves,” he said.
6.5 million overseas Vietnamese serve as a bridge linking the great national unity bloc with the friendship and support of people around the world, Mr. Lam noted. “We should create favorable conditions for overseas intellectuals and entrepreneurs to contribute and become natural goodwill ambassadors for the country.”
The Party leader and President also urged the Union’s leadership to move beyond simply maintaining connections and instead focus on building substantive and effective partnerships that help enhance Vietnam’s overall national strength.
