At UNGA 81 in New York, Mr. Lam took part in the General Debate, exchanging views on major international issues and highlighting Vietnam’s contributions to peace, cooperation, and development. He also witnessed the signing of cooperation agreements between Vietnam and UN agencies for the 2027-2031 period.
During meetings with American friends and partners, both sides highlighted significant potential for cooperation, particularly in trade, investment, science and technology, and innovation, while reaffirming their commitment to delivering practical, mutually beneficial outcomes.
Mr. Lam’s State visit to Canada marked the first by a Vietnamese Party chief and President since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The most notable outcome was the elevation of Vietnam-Canada relations to a Strategic Partnership.
During the visit, Mr. Lam delivered a policy speech titled “Vietnam-Canada Strategic Partnership in a Volatile World” at the Canadian Parliament, setting out broad directions for enhancing cooperation under the new framework.
“The trip was highly successful, producing a wide range of substantive outcomes. General Secretary and President To Lam shared Vietnam’s achievements under the Doi Moi (renewal) process, its development strategy, foreign policy, and its vision, goals, and path forward in a new era. He strongly reaffirmed Vietnam’s foreign policy of being an active and responsible member of the international community, proactively contributing to addressing common global challenges,” said Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung.
