The move is considered a crucial step that could pave the way for a retrial of the case. Sharing her hope for this landmark ruling, Nga said, “The lead lawyer in the Supreme Court trial has given me hope of winning. If I win, it will set a precedent for a new world law, so that all countries, no matter how powerful or wealthy, that commit crimes must be prosecuted. My feelings today, let me reiterate once again that I have dedicated my life to this struggle for so many years, so I am ready to continue.”
Attending a press conference at the French Senate, French Communist Senator Michelle Gréaume showed absolute support for Ms. Nga and the other victims of Agent Orange. “I am very honored to be here to support all the victims around the world of toxic chemical products used in war," he said.
"In the case of Ms. Tran To Nga, I think France has a role to play in recognizing these victims. She herself, her children, and her grandchildren have all been affected. France must protect, promote, and support them. Our party's stance is one of total support. We want to see this through to the end, demanding that large multinational corporations be convicted, compensate, pay the price, and acknowledge the wrongs they have committed against the people,” Gréaume added.
The review hearing at the French Supreme Court will take place on June 16, which will also be an opportunity for Paris to write a new chapter in international justice and hold multinational corporations accountable for the dangerous nature of the products they supply to the military.
