Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump dismissed a Washington Post report that quoted him telling Republican donors during a meeting in the Oval Office about two weeks ago, “At the end of the day, we need to elect JD.” Asked whether that amounted to a formal endorsement, Trump said, “I think he’s great, but we’re way too early to even be thinking about that.”
Recent US media polls have shown Vance as the leading potential Republican candidate for the 2028 presidential election, while support for Secretary of State Marco Rubio has also been rising.
Political observers say Trump's decision not to endorse any candidate yet gives the Republican Party greater flexibility as it prepares for the next presidential race.
