The human rights experts called US sanctions against Cuba “an attempt to force change on a sovereign State through threats and coercion” and called for urgent international action to prevent “a silent Gaza”.

The US’s latest measures, announced on July 23, target energy companies and have choked off all fuel imports, even fuel for humanitarian purposes.

Cuba is facing a severe fuel shortage and widespread power outages that have disrupted the country's energy system, transportation, irrigation, and many essential public services, including healthcare facilities.
