Speaking to world leaders at the UN General Assembly, Trump said the term “artificial intelligence” does not fully reflect the scale of the technology, while “superintelligence” is a more accurate description. He said he hopes other countries will adopt his new terminology.
Trump said he opposes establishing a global regulatory framework for AI. He acknowledged, however, that emerging technologies bring challenges and that AI is no exception. He said US law enforcement agencies will closely monitor the sector as necessary.
Earlier, leaders from more than 20 countries, mostly in Europe, called for binding safety measures for advanced AI. British Prime Minister Andy Burnham said on Tuesday that Britain will make AI a central focus of its G20 presidency in 2027.
French President Emmanuel Macron proposed developing independent AI capabilities separate from those of the leading technology powers, and called on countries to pool investment resources to develop an advanced open-source AI model and make it widely available.
