The USS Carl Vinson is the US Navy’s third Nimitz-class supercarrier launched in 1980.

The ships include aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson, missile cruiser USS Lake Champlain and destroyer USS Wayne E. Meyer.

During the visit, crew members will take part in a wide range of exchange activities with the Vietnam People’s Navy, as well as visit orphanages and centers for Agent Orange/Dioxin victims. The aircraft carrier will welcome military, press and Da Nang officials delegations.

Aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson's crew members are welcomed in Da Nang on February 5, 2018.

The visit actualizes the agreement reached in the joint statement issued during US President Donald Trump’s visit to Vietnam in November last year. It is seen as a further step in strengthening Vietnam-US ties in line with their comprehensive partnership.
