US President criticizes the idea of a European army

(VOVWORLD) - US President Donald Trump on Tuesday attacked French President Emmanuel Macron for proposing a European army to protect Europe against the US, China and Russia, likening it to German militarism before the two world wars.

Trump also criticized European allies for not spending enough on their militaries, particularly Germany. The same day, German Chancellor Angela Merkel called for an integrated European Union military, echoing a similar call by Emmanuel Macron last week.
