The funding is provided under the USDA’s Agricultural Technical Assistance Program.
The initiative will be carried out in partnership with Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and an international agricultural research organization. It aims to improve fertilizer-use efficiency, enhance fertilizer performance, and promote alternatives to conventional chemical fertilizers.
The grant recipient will conduct comparative studies in both the US and Vietnam to assess how US-produced bio-fertilizers can reduce nitrogen loss while maintaining or increasing crop yields.
The program will require collaboration with Vietnamese partners to provide input on national fertilizer management guidelines, focusing on chemical fertilizer alternatives such as bio-fertilizers and enhanced-efficiency fertilizers with microbial coatings.
