US to send more troops to Afghanistan

(VOVWORLD) - The Pentagon said Thursday that the US will send 3,000 more soldiers to Afghanistan, raising the number of US troops there to approximately 14,000.

The additional troops will train Afghan security forces to fight Taliban militants, US Joint Staff Director Lieutenant General Kenneth McKenzie told reporters. The move follows President Donald Trump’s new Afghan strategy.
