Vietnam unswervingly considers Myanmar a member of ASEAN and the Five-Point Consensus as the most important framework, Minister Trung said. Vietnam is ready to closely coordinate with the ASEAN Chair in 2026 and member states to support Myanmar's economic recovery, address social issues, promote bilateral and sub-regional cooperation, and make practical contributions to the process of building the ASEAN Community, he added.

The five points are: immediate cessation of violence in Myanmar, constructive dialogue among all parties concerned to seek a peaceful solution, appointment of a special envoy of the ASEAN Chair to facilitate mediation, humanitarian assistance provided by ASEAN, and a visit by the Special Envoy to Myanmar to meet with all parties concerned.

The Vietnamese Foreign Minister was speaking at the Informal Meeting of ASEAN Foreign Ministers with Myanmar's Foreign Minister on Sunday in Bangkok, Thailand, chaired by Philippine Foreign Minister Maria Theresa P. Lazaro, the ASEAN Chair for 2026.

At the meeting, Myanmar's Foreign Minister Tin Maung Swe briefed on recent developments in Myanmar, including the 100-day plan and measures to promote peace, stability, and maintain contact with relevant parties.

The ASEAN Foreign Ministers affirmed their commitment to continuing dialogue with representatives of the Myanmar government, supporting the search for a long-term solution led and managed by Myanmar, for the goal of lasting peace, stability, and prosperity for the people and the entire region.

On this occasion, Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung held bilateral meetings with his Myanmar and Philippine counterparts to exchange in-depth views on cooperation issues of mutual interest.
