Deputy Minister Hang, head of the Vietnamese delegation, emphasized the importance of ensuring the rights and interests of developing countries in the peaceful use of nuclear energy to support progress. She highlighted the need to strengthen international cooperation, expand access to technology and expertise, and secure sustainable financial resources.

The diplomat also outlined Vietnam’s efforts to improve its domestic legal and policy framework, including the adoption of the Strategy for the Development and Application of Nuclear Energy for Peaceful Purposes through 2035, with a vision to 2050. Vietnam is promoting scientific research and technological applications in nuclear energy, particularly in healthcare, agriculture, environmental protection, and energy security.

Vietnam also called on the international community to reaffirm its commitment to the NPT by enhancing collective efforts and adopting a balanced, substantive outcome document to guide the Treaty’s next review cycle.

Under Vietnam’s chairmanship, the 11th NPT Review Conference will run for four weeks, from April 27 to May 22. The Vietnamese delegation is led by Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang and includes Major General Nguyen Dinh Hien, Commander of the Chemical Corps under the Ministry of National Defence and Permanent Deputy Head of Vietnam’s National Authority for the Prevention of the Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction, along with representatives from the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
