Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Ho Quang Buu said the signpost and guardhouse were artifacts of the former 1st reconnaissance battalion of the US Marine Corps in Da Nang.
Vietnam handed over the artifacts in a spirit of goodwill and humanitarianism and expressed its hope that they will be carefully preserved, appropriately displayed, and introduced by the US side.
The artifacts are expected not only to preserve the memories of those who lived through that period but also to serve as a testament for younger generations in both countries to the power of overcoming the past, healing divisions, building trust, and transforming memories of war into a foundation for cooperation and peace as the two nations move forward together, said Mr. Buu.
US Ambassador to Vietnam Jennifer Wicks said the artifacts “stand as symbols of the cooperation between our two countries and our shared commitment to reconciliation.”
