This year’s theme, “Global Action for a Cooler Planet,” marks the 10th anniversary of the adoption of the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol, highlighting a decade of global efforts to phase down hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) and promote sustainable cooling solutions.
Vietnam has been a member of the Vienna Convention and the Montreal Protocol since 1994 and ratified the Kigali Amendment in 2019. After more than three decades, Vietnam has done a geat deal in protecting the ozone layer and managing controlled substances.
According to the UN Ozone Secretariat, the enforcement of the Vienna Convention and the Montreal Protocol in Vietnam has helped prevent emissions equivalent to around 260 million tons of CO₂. Vietnam’s contribution to protecting the ozone layer has delivered significant climate benefits.
Together with the international community, Vietnam continues to effectively implement the Montreal Protocol and the Kigali Amendment, promote technological transition, improve energy efficiency, develop human resources and strengthen the management of refrigerants throughout their lifecycle, working together for a cooler planet.
