The Travel and Tourism Development Index comprises 17 pillars and 102 individual indicators grouped into five broad dimensions: enabling environment; travel and tourism policy and enabling conditions; infrastructure and services; travel and tourism resources; and travel and tourism sustainability.

Vietnam had 7 indicators among the world’s leading performers, including price competitiveness, where it ranked 7th, and safety and security, where it placed 9th. Other strengths included cultural resources, natural resources, sustainability of travel and tourism demand, non-leisure resources, and air transport infrastructure.

In Southeast Asia, Vietnam ranked behind Singapore, which placed 13th globally, Indonesia at 23rd, Malaysia at 26th and Thailand at 38th.
