At the 9th meeting of the Joint Committee for Vietnam-Myanmar Bilateral Cooperation, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh and Myanmar Minister of International Cooperation U Kyaw Tin reiterated the stance of disallowing any country or individual to engage in territorial sabotage of another country. They expressed their belief that the two countries would soon raise bilateral trade to 1 billion USD.
The two agreed to promote peace, stability, security, safety, and freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea and vowed to respect international law toward those ends. The Myanmar Minister agreed to support Vietnam’s role as ASEAN Chair in 2020 and its bid to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council from 2020 to 2021.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc met the Myanmar Minister on the same day at the government office.
