At a press briefing in Hanoi on Vietnam’s socio-economic performance in the first six months of the year and priorities for the remainder of 2026, Deputy Minister Phuong said macroeconomic stability was largely maintained, inflation remained under control, and energy security was ensured.
Most notably, GDP is estimated to have expanded by 8.18% in the first half of the year, the highest rate since 2011 and among the strongest in the region.
The government is aiming for double-digit growth in the second half of 2026 while keeping inflation at around 4.5%, he said.
“The last two quarters of the year will be the acceleration phase, with the highest growth expected across all sectors, from production and business activities to exports, imports, and investment. Such rapid growth will place significant pressure on macroeconomic management, particularly in balancing resources and controlling prices. We have anticipated these challenges and prepared response scenarios,” said Deputy Minister Phuong.
The conference also provided information on activities marking the 65th anniversary of the Agent Orange disaster in Vietnam on August 10.
Nguyen Huu Chinh, President of the Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin, said the organization will step up domestic and international communications efforts to raise awareness of the long-lasting and severe impacts of Agent Orange on the environment and human health.
