The Ministry of Science and Technology said mobile operators stopped supporting 2G-only devices on September 16, 2024. The 2G network was kept during the transition for users who still needed it.
The shutdown will free up frequencies for 4G and 5G, improving network quality and capacity and helping telecom companies cut costs. Users will gradually switch to 4G and 5G phones, making it easier to for them to access digital services such as digital IDs, online payments, banking, public services and e-commerce.
