Vietnam takes vice president role at UNESCO World Heritage Committee

[VOVWORLD] - Vietnam has been elected a vice president of the 49th session of the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO scheduled to take place in Istanbul, Turkey, from June 27 to July 7, 2027.

Host country Turkey will serve as president, while Vietnam, Armenia, Grenada, Tanzania and Kuwait will serve as vice presidents.

The World Heritage Committee meets annually for a session of around 15 days, bringing together States Parties to the 1972 World Heritage Convention, along with representatives of international organizations. High on its agenda is the review of new nominations for UNESCO World Heritage status.

Vietnam is preparing the nomination dossier for the Oc Eo–Ba The archaeological site in An Giang province for consideration during the session. Vietnam is one of the 21 members of the World Heritage Committee for the 2023–2027 term.
