During their meeting in Hanoi, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung said the Thai leader’s visit is of special significance, as it coincides with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Thailand (August 6). The visit contributes to consolidating political trust, strengthening cooperation between the two legislatures, and promoting the Vietnam-Thailand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership toward deeper, more substantive, and effective development, he added.
The two leaders agreed to maintain high-level and other-level contacts and effectively utilize key cooperation mechanisms, particularly the Joint Cabinet Meeting co-chaired by the two Prime Ministers.
Both sides also agreed to maintain effective defense and security cooperation mechanisms; enhance collaboration in maritime security and safety, the defense industry, and search and rescue operations; step up coordination in combating transnational crime; and ensure that no individual or organization uses one country's territory to act against the other.
Regarding regional and global issues, PM Le Minh Hung and NA President Sophon Zaram agreed to continue close coordination at multilateral forums and within Mekong sub-region cooperation mechanisms, and to work closely to consolidate internal solidarity and uphold the centrality of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
They stressed the need to promote ASEAN’s common position on the East Sea, and ensure peace, stability, security, safety, and freedom of navigation and overflight in the East Sea on the basis of international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982).
