Meeting UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in New York on Wednesday, Party General Secretary and State President To Lam said Vietnam has undergone a significant transformation from an aid recipient to an active and responsible contributor to strengthening the central role of the United Nations. He affirmed Vietnam’s support for the UN80 Initiative, which aims to enhance the organization’s effectiveness and efficiency.
Mr. Lam called on the UN to continue supporting Vietnam in digital transformation and capacity building, sharing experience, connecting the country with international experts and technology and financial networks, responding to climate change, and advancing the green transition, particularly through mobilizing resources and accelerating the implementation of the Just Energy Transition Partnership.
Mr. Guterres affirmed that Vietnam has become an important pillar of multilateralism and a valued partner of the UN. He expressed his hope that Vietnam will continue to play an active role in global transformation efforts, contribute to climate action under the Just Energy Transition Partnership, and promote the responsible development of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence.
