Dr Mohamed Effendy Bin Abdul Hamid, senior lecturer in Southeast Asian studies at the National University of Singapore, described the invitation as “a highly significant development” reflecting Vietnam’s emergence as a key stakeholder in regional and global affairs, particularly in supply chains, maritime security, and regional diplomacy.
Professor Vu Minh Khuong of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy in Singapore noted that Vietnam is emerging as “a comprehensive model” because of its resilient history, the success of its renewal process, and its aspiration to become a technologically advanced nation in the coming decades.
International attention has been drawn, he said, to recent milestones of its foreign policy, and Vietnam is now not only pursuing its own development goals but promoting understanding between major powers.
The Shangri-La Dialogue, Asia’s leading security forum, is held annually by the International Institute for Strategic Studies in Singapore.
