The commitment was highlighted during a meeting between Vietnamese Finance Minister Ngo Van Tuan and Erin Browne, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Treasury's Office for International Affairs, on Tuesday on the sidelines of the 2026 APEC Finance Ministers’ Meeting in Hong Kong, China.
Minister Ngo Van Tuan called on the US to advance technical-level negotiations on a protocol amending the bilateral tax treaty, share experience and mechanisms for screening technologies involved in foreign direct investment projects, and support Vietnam’s position in negotiations on an Agreement on Reciprocal, Fair and Balanced Trade (ART).
He also urged the US to recognize Vietnam as a market economy at an early date, reiterating that Vietnam continues to maintain a stable, transparent and favorable business and investment environment for US companies and investors operating in the country over the long term.
Erin Browne said the US Treasury Department stood ready to work closely with Vietnam to translate shared orientations into detailed action plans. She expressed the hope that the two countries would further deepen substantive cooperation under their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
